shweta mainA student of Class XII, DAV School, Jalladhar, Shweta Sharma is out to write her own story. Aspiring to be an IFS officer, she says, “You can only create glory when you yourself are the writer of the story”. Very creative and adopting innovative means to do things Shweta now has quite a few achievements under her cap. Winner of Ignite Award for three consecutive times, Shweta still has a lot of innovations and new ideas left in her and for the world to see. These awards are given by the National Innovation Foundation (NIF), India working under the Department of Science and Technology at IIM-Ahemadabad. She won the Ignite Award in 2011 for her idea for an expiry indicator, for which she also holds a patent in her name. It was presented to her by the former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Azad.

Continuing on the same track her brilliance was witnessed again as she was selected for the Ignite Awards 2012 in which she came forward with the idea of making a device which can relocate clouds and then in 2013 her two projects — CFL bulb holder/remover project and an anger management device — were selected for which she won the prize. A rare feat to achieve at such a young age, Shweta is excelling in every field and is now setting milestones for her peers and juniors to give in their best.

Apart from this she also participated in a competition “English for Games” organized by the British Council, New Delhi, in 2012, where she successfully bagged the second position. An avid reader, she won a bronze medal in a paper reading competition at the state level. She was name was also nominated for the “Hawaizaida Award” by 92.7 Big FM in 2014.

shweta1Talking about her role models, Shweta says that she was inspired by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Azad, her School Principal Dr. Rashmi Vij and the NDTV Anchor Ambika Anand to do something useful and meaningful with her life. My mother, Meenu Sharma, a homemaker, has encouraged me all along to pursue my dreams and has helped me in taking these huge leaps. Her father Vinod Sharma, Sports Head at Police DAV Public School, is equally proud of her daughters achievements and helps her in pursuing her dreams. “I now consider myself to be my own role model as I want to better my achievements and bring laurels to my family”, she adds. Behind her success lies her dedication and deep interest in the field of science and research. She says that she wants to serve the nation by becoming a civil servant and her aim is to join the Indian Foreign Services.

Her other keen interests include watching cricket, dancing and writing poems. Her favorite cricketer is Virat Kohli and her favorite TV show is Bigg Boss.

Shweta’s CFL project has now been qualified for a National Level CBSE Science Experiment showcase, in New Delhi in May, 2015. We wish her all the very best !!!
