If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It — Hemanshi Sharma

himanshi1There is no substitute for hard work. The road to success comes through hard work, determination and sacrifice. Winner of “All Rounder of the Year” Hemanshi Sharma has proved this quote to be quite true. Hemanshi, a student of Class IX from Auckland House School, Shimla, was awarded the Excellence in Sports Certificate for her outstanding performances in different sporting events during the current academic year. She is also the lead guitarist of her school band — SHELZ — and above all scored a distinction, bagging the 5th position in her class. She hails from a family of sportsmen as her grandfather Des Raj Sharma, a retired S.P. was a famous volleyball player. He made India proud by getting the first ever silver medal in volleyball in Fourth Asian Games hosted at Jakarta, Indonesia in 1962. She adds, “My grandfather is my role model. I have been inspired by him, since as a child I have seen him playing, hence my interest towards sports was quite natural”.

Hemanshi started taking part in different sporting events ever since she was in junior section and with her hard work and dedication she was soon representing different her school in various interschool sports meets. In Summer Hill Sports Meet she bagged the 2nd position in High Jump as well as the 800 meters dash. She stood 3rd in the Dussehera Sports Meet in which she participated in high jump and athletics events. She also played in the Dhyanchand Hockey Tournament and represented the school team in soccer, hockey, volleyball, basketball, athletics and table tennis. In addition to all this she has won 9 medals and Best Athletic Victor Ludorm during Annual Sports Day.

himanshi6_bTalking about a career in sports, she says, “Through I love sports but my dream is to become a famous gynaecologist and for that I am studying seriously as well”. Besides a passionate interest in sports, she is also the lead guitarist of her school band, during which she has performed in various digs as well as participated in a western music competition held at Bishop Cottons School.

With quite a few achievements, acknowledged through many awards and attention at this young age, she says, “I feel proud of myself and it further inspires me to even work hard towards achieving my goal. I feel on the top of the world. My family is also very happy and they are proud of me”.

Her message for her friends — Hard work and dedication are the keys to success, keep working hard and nothing can stop you from reaching the top !!!
