“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up,” as once Pablo Picasso said. Well soon to be a Doctor, Shivam Sharma still finds time to return to his passion, that is, drawing and sketching.
Born to doctor parents, did most of his schooling from a small town, Nadaun in Hamirpur, Himachal. His inborn talent couldn’t be hidden away for long as his attraction towards paints and colours grew from the age of two. His parents soon noticed his flair for painting and have been an instrumental force in supporting his creativity at all stages. They ensured that he always had different drawing books, striking colours, pencils, crayons and water colours, while at the same time encouraging and appreciating his art. But his creativity never slowed his academic progress as since kinder garden class he has been the recipient of many prizes and awards for his all round performance and especially for his art and drawings. His notable participation was in Class 3, in 2003 when he took part in the Surabhi All India Child Art Exhibition and following years too he won various awards in spot drawing and sketching.
His creativity gradually improved as he started sketching cartoons, models, animations and soon he was into making some great portraits. By the age of nine he was totally inspired to take up animation as a profession. Most of his school vacations were spent on giving wings to his creativity. He was soon engrossed into drawing animations of famous characters such as Spiderman, Batman, Avatar and so on.
Senior years too saw his creativity at its best as each year passed his achievements and collection of awards grew while at the same time excelling on the academic front as well, as in 2012 he was elected as the Head Boy of his School. He was totally engrossed in his painting but suddenly his interest in science, especially biology intensified, and he then decided to take up medicine as his profession. But at the same time his passion for sketching persisted and he often used his free time in creating some great sketches.
His aim in life is to serve the society by becoming a doctor and that is exactly what he is doing at present, he can be found buried between science / biology books studying MBBS at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal University, Mangalore. But as they say ‘where there’s a will, there’s a way’ and Shivam always takes out time to pursue his passion for sketching.
