“Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth” — a saying that not only inspires many but also seems to have been framed keeping in mind the young, bubbly and dynamic trio team of young women living in Shimla.

Currently running a small venture by the name Buns & Barrels, Anji, Bhavika and Neetika are proving that a girl should be two things: who and what she wants. Their passion for craft has not only given them wings to fly but also brings a magical smile on the faces of many other who are touched by their creative wand.

While sharing their journey Neetika says, “There was this fondness for art and crafts that was there since the longest of times that brought us all together. During school times Anji and I would always indulge us in the most creative activities and projects that captivated our teachers making her give extra marks for just showcasing our creative crafts in our notebooks. Then I met Bhavika in college who was equally passionate for crafts. After being away from home for almost two years, she dropped the idea of Delhi and came back to her loving home Shimla to give a try to this venture.”

Incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what you do, and have power over it instead of craving control over what you don’t and hence they all came up with their start-up on art & crafts called Buns & Barrels. ‘Where ‘Buns’ represent our femininity, ‘Barrels’ stand for our पिटारा, almost जादू का. Yes! ‘It does produce beautiful magical things’, expresses the trio team with great joy and enthusiasm.

One can get personalized gifts, home decor items, cards-journals-photo boxes, and scrapbooks for any occasion and also do event decoration. From choosing to wrapping and presenting, they do it all on their customer’s behalf. They deliver across India and price range starts from as little as Rs. 50. As their start up is all about customization – the price range varies with choices and demand of the customer.

“We do collaborate with school/colleges/institutes for hobby classes as we believe that sharing is caring and the joy of creativity gets doubled as the other person has the satisfaction reflecting on their faces. The more we see ourselves as a vibrant, successful, inspiring person who boldly declares and manifests her vision, the more we become just that so we are always eager and happy to share our talent”, express all.

Talking about the future they say, “As this venture started off with three women, 10 years from now, we see lakhs of women being part of it. When we say women we are not being partial towards one section. We all know women are often oppressed. We need to reshape our own perception of how we view ourselves. We have to step up as women and take the lead. Like us, every woman across the world loves decorating, loves creating. In India, especially in rural areas there’s no platform for them to show this immense beauty and talent that lies in each of us. Men go to work; women are left to take care of the household. We believe in giving wings to women’s creativity and love for art & crafts.”

“For us too, this did not come as a cake walk because parental reaction was always there. As long as the term ‘business’ was not added to it, it was considered lightly but then it was looked upon through tainted glass as a number of speculations weigh the risks involved. Being students, managing initial investments was difficult. Once we started off, we felt as if we were up to something fruitful but still aren’t sure of it. But over all, you do struggle”, they added.

“When there are no ceilings, the sky’s the limit. So let’s keep going. You must give everything to make your life as beautiful as the dreams that dance in your imagination. There’s no such thing as a free lunch in life everything comes with its price so be prepared to work hard and pay for it if you really want to pursue it. We often miss opportunities because it’s dressed in overalls and looks like work, so be wise and smart, use the resources in front of you to project your talent to the world via Internet where physical boundaries have melted long ago “, they conclude.
