Meaning: Having something that is certain is much better than taking a risk for more, because chances are you might lose everything.

Once upon a time there lived a young man, Mohan. He was self content with his small shop where he managed to earn his bread and butter. Like any other good natured person he too was often surrounded with many people.

One day Mohan’s childhood friend, Sohan returned to the village after a long time. Everyone was impressed with his wealth and achievements in life. Then Sohan went to meet his friend Mohan and on seeing him prosperously living his life in village he was very happy.

As time passed both friends shared their daily business experiences and often contemplated on what they could do to further make their future bright. Sohan was an over ambitious kind of a man and always dreamt about wealth and success.

Mohan too failed to remain untouched with such influence and hence, when his friend was going to back to the city, he too joined him. Mohan thought about expanding his small shop business further in the city. He took all his savings and packed his bags for the big city.

After reaching the city Mohan was impressed by the hospitality of his friend and started in his quest to settle his business. While Mohan was busy trying to establish himself in the city he totally forgot about his shop back in the village.

As time passed Mohan was not able to prove his worth in the city and the saving which he had brought along with him also started to drain. His friend gave him a fine advice to return back to the village and take care of his shop like before so that he could manage his daily bread.

After a year’s disappointment Mohan returned to his village with the hope to work hard in his shop and live his life peacefully. To his surprise, his shop in the village too was gone. The servant on whom he had shouldered his responsibility sold away that shop.

Now that Mohan was left with no option other than to repent and realize the fact that A BIRD IN THE HAND IS WORTH TWO IN THE BUSH. Had he not been carried away under the influence of his ambitious friend, and went to city to try his luck, he would have not lost his shop and basic source of earning would still have been with him.
