kv2Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jakhu celebrated their Annual Day here today with oodles of enthusiasm as the chief for the occasion was Chairman VMC, KV Jakhoo Hills and Additional Chief Secretary Education and IPH Govt. HP, P.C. Dhiman. The function began with the traditional lightning of the lamp ceremony by the chief guest followed by the annual school report presented by the School Principal S.K. Misra. He informed the parents and guests about the achievements of the school during last academic session and said, “The year under review, has been full of activities, both curricular, co-curricular and has come to stay as a milestone in the life span of the Vidyalaya. K.V. Jakhoo Hills Shimla has always looked towards the zenith of excellence. The overall Class X result was 100 per cent with remarkable performance index of 74.6. Ten students scored 10 CGPA in Class 10 and received certificates and Rs 5,000 as cash prize was awarded by KVS. Shivam Rana was the third topper in the region with 95.4 per cent in science stream; Divya Jyoti stood first in Chandigarh region with 94.6 per cent in Arts stream, while Prince was second in Chandigarh region with 91.2 per cent in Arts stream. Class XII overall result stood at 98 per cent with a performance index of 52.8”.

kv1Quoting Winston Churchill, Misra said, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts”, ‘Our achievement in the field of games and sports is at par with the academic. In all, 64 students participated at Regional Level Sports Meet, while 27 participated in KVS National Level Sports Meet in various games. The school has won many gold medals including Volley Ball U-19 Boys: Gold Medal; Volleyball U-19 Girls: Gold Medal; and Basketball U-19 Girls: Gold Medal. New plans and strategies are always underway to ensure better facilities, better ambiance, better choices and above all, a better education to our children. The efforts of the members of the staff are second to none for making the year eventful. Professional developments of teachers by way of In-service Training Course for them from time to time are held for updating their knowledge and bringing awareness about latest methodology and technology of education”.

The cultural programme began with Sararswati Vandana by girls which was followed by mesmerizing performance by the tiny tots on a very popular English song Barbie Girl. Then came the breathtaking Indonesian Dance performance. The spirit of patriotism was instilled among students as they performed a patriotic group song. Reflecting the adverse effects of deforestation and future of mankind without trees, the boys and girls of Class IX performed a Hindi skit. After the eye-opening skit the students of Class X unleashed their talent and presented an expressive contemporary dance performance. The Rajasthani, Punjabi and the very popular Himachali folk dances were loved by all present. The programme ended with a beautiful English skit dedicated to all the mothers and wishing them a very Happy Mothers’ Day.

Students who excelled in different fields during the last academic year were awarded during the event by the chief guest. The names of a few proud winners are Moudit Awasthi (Head Boy), Manavata (Head Girl), Ranjan (Best Scout), Vidushi (Best Guide), Ankit (National Quiz), Class 10 students with 10 CGPA — Maheswar, Sahil, Akshay, Alisha Himral, Gunjan, Deepika, Ravi Kant, Rahul Mehta, Tripti and Priyanka; Winners of the Quiz Social Sciences Competition — Manavta, Shailza, Maheshwar, Ravi Kant, Arushi Chauan (Posetr Making), Akshita Verma (English Calligraphy),  Meena (Essay Writing Competition), Kanika (Poem Recital); Rangoli Making Competition — Sheenam, Ankita, Yamini, Ishan, Keshav, Prakash Chand (Letter Writing) and Kritank (Solo Song Junior).

The event officially concluded with a speech by the chief guest P.C. Dhiman who congratulated the students and the entire faculty by saying, “I would like thank Principal Misra for giving me the opportunity to be part of this beautiful event. I would like to congratulate all the students who have won today and praise the efforts of all the teachers as well as the parents for understanding and encouraging their children to reach new heights of success. Occasions like these play a vital part in imparting knowledge and inculcating values among the students by giving them a boost to do better in life”.

While giving the vote of thanks, Principal Misra said, “I must sincerely thank each stake holder for their unrelenting support and encouragement, and hope that they will continue to support in our small and big efforts. In this way all required efforts are made to bring laurels to the Vidyalaya and take it to the new heights of glory. We are thankful to our VMC Chairman, parents and VMC members for their kind cooperation in this regard. After all holistic education of our students is our common goal. I am extremely thankful to our Chief Guest P. C. Dhiman, for his benign presence”.
