Junior Cottonians give Spectacular Performances

Bishop Cotton School Junior Annual School Concert 2015 was held here today in the school premises as Dr. G.R. Bazliel, an active member of the Disaster Management Committee and Phd in Social Sciences presided over the function as the guest of honour for the event. The students presented a very musical and colourful programme. The headmaster of the school Christopher Robinson and the Junior School Headmistress Dorothy Robinson were also present on the occasion. The junior school students enticed the audience with a colourful display of various talented performances.

The fun programme began with a beautifully sung prayer by the students followed by the performance of the students from the non-formal school who carried Indian flags and danced to the tunes of Mere Desh Ko Rakhna Mere Bachon Sambhalkar. Next was another group of students who sang Desmond has a Barrow. Boys dressed as beautiful girls then performed on a Rajasthani Folk dance and won the hearts of the all present. Students of Class V next danced on a number India Wale. Reflecting the mood of the audience present on the occasion the students of Class III performed a group dance on the song Happy. Ranging from Punjabi folk dance on Dhol Jagiron Da to some modern style dance moves to the tunes of Moves like Jagger, the little kids left no stone unturned when it came to variety of performances.

The famous children’s play Pied Peter was also performed to sheer perfection by the little star actors. The wonderful music and well-designed costumes, make-up and props were very impressive. The melodious choir and the astonishing dancers were appreciated by everyone.  The variety entertainment programme ended with all the students singing the school song with their heads held up high, ‘Overcome Evil with Good’.

The guest of honour, Mr Bazliel congratulated the students on such a brilliant performance by saying, “The show put up by these lovely students today reminded me of my childhood days. I congratulate each and every one of them for being spectacular today. Today, I would like to take this opportunity to ask the administration of the school to involve in Disaster Management Programmes. I have been active member of this programme for years. It is not a part of the curriculum for students but I strongly believe that this should be taken up as a subject, if not more, regular workshops should be held in all schools. Recently, we witnessed the horrendous situation that arose in Nepal due to earthquake, Himachal, Uttrakhand also fall in Seismic Zone 5 which means they are very vulnerable to earthquakes. Disaster management teaches us about do’s and don’ts in a situation of natural calamity. Bishop Cotton School is one of the pioneers in the field of education, taking the first step in this matter and we will encourage other schools to join and teach the children to be prepared”.

School Headmaster Robinson thanked the chief guest for gracing the occasion and said, “I would like to thank Mr Bazliel for sharing with us his knowledge and experiences. Our young students have performed brilliantly well in different fields during the last session and I congratulate all the teachers, students and the junior school headmistress for putting up a great show for us today. Our school always seeks to provide a wealth of opportunities and experiences for our students with teachers who are always encouraging and committed to getting the best from the students and I feel proud in saying that every year we do come out with flying colours”.
