portmore.20.6.15cThe 5th District Level Exhibition and Project Competition was held from 18th to 20th June, 2015 in Government Senior Secondary Girls High School Portmore Shimla, which was organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, in collaboration with the Deputy Director of Higher Education Shimla. The chief guest for the concluding day was Deputy Commissioner Dinesh Malhotra, who was warmly greeted by School Principal Nisha Bhoolani. The chief guest was accompanied by the District Nodal Officer Rakesh Sarmeth, Dr. Anmol Gupta resource person from I.G.M.C Shimla, Dr. Ravi Sharma,  Senior Scientist, Dr. Shashi Dhar, Science and Technology, Dr. Sunil Negi from Kotshera College and Dr. Brijesh from R.K.M.V.

portmore.20.6.15aDuring this three day competition more than 370 participants from 195 government and private schools were part of the event. The different types of model displayed by the participants included samples on environment, global warming, water conservation, rain harvesting, saving electricity, solar power and many more equally brilliant ideas. For this exhibition a total of Rs 20 Lakh were sanction and each child got Rs 5000/- for his project.

portmore.20.6.15bThe event began with the Saraswati Vandana followed by different cultural items — a folk dance, Gidda and Nati were highly appreciated by the chief guest and the audience. The Dhol played by one of the participants was the main attraction of the event. She was awarded Rs 500 from Dr Uma Devi, Principal of Bagen School. The program ended with the prize distribution and an inspiring speech by the chief guest who appreciated the efforts of the students and encouraged them to perform even better next time. He even showed his displeasure over the quality of few models made and asked the students to work on some new topics and work hard and utilize their time properly. He further added that to participate at national level children need to adopt latest technological means to create new ideas rather than following the age old examples still. He also donated Rs 20,000 for the students who put up a great cultural event.

During the event 35 models were selected from all over the district, which would now be part of the State Level Science Competition to be held in August this year.
