An annual function celebrated by a school, gives a chance to students to display their managerial and other skills they excel at. Students of Bishop Cottons School, Shimla presented a wonderful show as they staged their annual day concert here today.

The morning began by lighting of the lamp which opened a new vista of entertainment for the spectators. For starters a beautiful invocation “Down On My Knees” – a song written by Beth Nielsen Chapman from the album ‘Hearts in Armour’ was presented by the school’s Junior Choir.

The Non-Formal Centre which is part of the School comprising  of children of daily wage labourers, for whom uniform, books, lunch and everything else is provided, the school daily presented a spectacular performance on the song ‘Dil Hai Chota Sa Chotee See Aasha’ from the epic Bollywood movie Roja.

Special children from The Learning Centre BCS presented ‘Rumatiya’ from the very heart of ‘Dev Bhoomi Himachal Pradesh, the traditional folk dance known as ‘Nati’ that made all feel the positive vibes.

No show is complete without the foot tapping traditional dance from other states so the boys dressed as Kashmiri girls mesmerized the audience as they swirled in their gorgeous attire and swayed to the traditional beats of ‘Bumbroo’ from the heart of the breathtaking land of Kashmir. An evergreen melody by the Colombian songwriter Shakira made all rock-n-roll to the song ‘I Dare You’.

‘Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head’, yet another evergreen classic dating back to 1961 sung by Dee Clark was beautifully presented by the school choir. Other items included by ‘Cause they are better when they are dancing’, from the movie PeanutsHappy song written, produced and performed by the American singer Pharrell Williams, Rajhasthani dance on an evergreen number ‘Resham Ka Rumal’ sung by Ila Arun, ‘Shine Jesus Shine’ also known as “Lord, The Light of Your Love’ written in 1987 and sung by Graham Kendrick. Spanish dance on song Macarena and last but not the least came the play ‘The Button Tree’.

It is a story of a boy who has lost his favourite button, and with the help of other Boys, Girls, Eight brown Elves, Four Button Tree Fairies, The Scissors, Thread, the Thimble and the Four O’clock, manage to sew UP the huge terrifying Dragon in his cave and set the lost buttons free, which have been sewed on The Button Tree.

Punita Bhardwaj, IPS presently posted as Inspector General of Police, Welfare & Administration, PHQ Shimla, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She appreciated the show staged by students and wished them success for their future lives. She congratulated the school staff for having pulled up such a difficult task of presenting boys as girls with complete grace.
